With so much incredible technology at our fingertips these days, the advances in health care are absolutely mind-blowing. As the options for medications and treatments continue to progress, I can’t even begin to imagine the amazing things patients will be able to take advantage of in the future.
At Baptist Memorial Health Care, being at the forefront of health care is extremely important to us. Because of this, we conduct in-depth research to help determine the safety and effectiveness of new medications and treatment options. Our areas of research include:
- Cardiology
- Cardiac surgery
- Vascular surgery
- Endocrinology
- Obstetrics and gynecology
- Cancer
- Emergency medicine
- Pulmonary medicine
To focus on developing cutting-edge medical care for our patients, we created the Baptist Clinical Research Institute. This is a hospital-based research center that conducts clinical trials. The staff works with doctors, pharmaceutical companies, the National Cancer Institute, The Gynecologic Oncology Group, the National Institutes of Health, and a variety of other research organizations to test original ideas, medications, and new equipment and technology.
At the Clinical Research Institute, we conduct two different kinds of clinical trials: interventional and observational. Interventional trials determine whether new treatments or ways of using known therapies are safe and effective in controlled environments. An observational trial addresses health issues among large groups of people in natural settings. Because of our commitment to clinical trials, patients reap the benefits of new and improved treatment options, fewer side effects, new standards of care, and access to advanced treatment options closer to home.
