Today’s market is filled with drinks promising runners everything from extra energy to added health benefits. What’s hard to figure out is what kind of drink do runners need? Do I really need a sports drink? What are the best drinks for hydration? Is water good enough?
Water is perfectly fine for typical day-to-day activities or when going for a light, recreational run in normal conditions and circumstances.
A sports drink with electrolytes can be very helpful in some workouts, but it’s not an everyday drink. If you’re doing a workout lasting more than an hour or one that is performed in extreme heat, it is important to drink a sports drink with electrolytes.
