All Runners Need to Chase Safety First

Mar 22 • 2017

Running safety begins with applying practical knowledge rather than experience. Whether this is your first run or your 100th, it’s important to keep these general guidelines in mind in order to stay on your feet.

  • When running outside, dress appropriately for the weather and always wear sunscreen. If it’s cold outside, layer up with running gloves, hats and sweat-wicking clothes. During the warmer months you can shed a few layers, but make sure to wear a hat and sweat-wicking clothes.
  • Stay hydrated. Drink water throughout the day and during your workouts. While running outside, a hand-held water bottle or water belt may be your best option for keeping water close.
  • Take your cell phone. If you’re running alone, or even in a group, make sure you have a way to get in touch with family/friends or emergency services in case of an accident or injury.

By remembering these few key points, you’ll find chasing safety as easy as running.
