Maintaining a healthy weight is one of the most important ways to stay healthy. Obesity can lead to a wide range of health problems, including diabetes, heart disease, stroke, and much more. At Baptist Memorial Health Care, we understand that reaching your weight loss goals can be tough to do without the right support. From diet and nutrition tips to support groups or weight loss surgery, we have the right option you need to start your journey to a healthier life.

Fitness Programs
Making the necessary lifestyle changes is one of the best ways to get your weight loss journey started. Several of our locations have on-site fitness centers where anyone in the community can purchase a membership. You’ll find weights, cardiovascular equipment, and fun classes like aerobics, Tai Chi, yoga, and more.

Community Classes and Support Groups
We understand that better health starts with education. Many of our hospitals offer classes on health issues of all varieties, from dealing with chronic diseases to understanding good nutrition. All of our courses are taught by Baptist Memorial Health Care employees and guest experts from around the community. People of all ages can also take part in our weight loss support groups to find others having a similar experience.

Gastric Bypass and Gastric Sleeve Surgeries
The Baptist Weight Loss Center offers a variety of options to people who have a high Body Mass Index. Gastric Bypass Surgery and Gastric Sleeve Surgery are two choices available if an individual and his doctor feels this is the best option for weight loss. You may qualify for weight loss surgery if you:

  • Are more than 100 pounds over your ideal body weight
  • Have a Body Mass Index (BMI) of 40 or higher
  • Have a BMI of 35 or higher and experience negative health effects related to being overweight, such as high blood pressure or diabetes
  • Are unable to achieve a healthy body weight for a sustained period of time, even with medically supervised dieting
